The luxury of natural stone: marble-look finishes are back on trend

Marble is one of the most widely used natural stones throughout history for its unique beauty, elegance and endless applications in terms of design and architecture. The question would rather be: have marble-look finishes ever gone out of fashion? The truth is that in recent years, the marbled print has crossed the boundaries of architecture and has become part of fashion design and even graphic design.

For Cosentino, this precious limestone has always inspired us to develop new colors for our brands, Silestone and Dekton. This can be seen in some of our latest collections, such as Ethereal by Silestone and the new Onirika by Dekton.

Why the marble effect will be a big hit this year

The benefits of marble-inspired colours in interior design projects are well known. For us, they are a safe bet if we are looking for an elegant, sophisticated and timeless look. Why is it making a strong comeback this year?

Luxury is trendy

For the 2022-23 season, luxury explores more exuberant versions of nature and craftsmanship. A dramatic colour scheme is used, metals such as gold and natural stones in bright colours are mixed with floral wallpapers.

Veining for added texture

The marble-inspired colours help bring texture to the interior design, in combination with wood and natural fibre.

Connection with nature

Another benefit of the marble effect  is that it provides the warmth and naturalness so desired by designers and interior designers, adding delicate nuances that connect us with nature.

Endless design possibilities

Marble-effect surfaces offer so many colours and textures that they can fit anywhere in the home, even beyond the kitchen worktop. They can be used for wall cladding, furniture, flooring, bathroom cladding, shower trays, outdoor kitchens, etc.

With our ultra-compact Dekton stone the possibilities are limitless: you can design everything from a swimming pool to a barbecue with marble-inspired colours.

Resistance and low maintenance

The main disadvantages of marble are its poor resistance to staining and heat. Therefore, a better option is the ultra-compact Dekton technical stone or the hybrid surface of premium materials, Silestone, which make up for all these technical shortcomings, achieving an equally attractive and natural design.

Another difference between them is the thickness of the material, as quality natural stone is only available in thicknesses of 20 to 30 mm. However, Dekton is available in thicknesses of 8, 12 and 20 mm and even 4 mm, allowing it to be used for multiple applications, from floors, worktops, furniture, walls and façades, thus optimising weight and time on site.

Both the Silestone and Dekton brands offer unique technical and aesthetic features for use in all types of applications:

  • Their low porosity makes them resistant to stains and moisture.

  • High resistance to scratches.

  • High resistance to knocks.

  • Large format, which minimizes the number of joints and provides visual continuity.

  • Over a hundred colors and designs to choose from.

  • Easy maintenance, as you only need to use water and neutral soap.

The new Dekton Onirika collection confirms the trend

Onirika is a collection that unites the poetic and unique beauty of stones harnessed by Dekton technology. The collection is named after the lavish inspiration of two worlds conveyed in marble-inspired colours to captivate our eyes and to infuse any space with a feeling we understand but cannot explain.

‘Onirika is not intended to imitate any existing natural stone, but to create something so unique and beautiful that it cannot be replicated,’ says Nina Magon, the designer who created the collection along with Cosentino.

The collection consists of 8 completely different marble-inspired colours, which can be combined with other noble materials such as wood, metal and other natural stones, among others.

Marble-inspired colours for every style

Among the various Silestone collections (Eternal, Ethereal, etc.) and Dekton (DK Natural, Stonika, Onirika, etc.) you can find the marbled effect you want for your project, including ethereal veins on large white canvases and bolder and more colourful veins that will give a lot of character to your spaces. Below are some examples:

If you are interested in a sober and dark look, we recommend the new colour Somnia from the Dekton Onirika series.
